Global Cooperative Entrepreneurs: Become a youth ambassador

ICA Africa opens today applications for youth ambassadors from Uganda and Zimbabwe within the mentoring programme Global Cooperative Entrepreneurs (GCE). Applications are open until the 9th September, 2019.

What is GCE?

The GCE is an experimental mentoring program aiming at providing support to youth ambassadors interested in setting up a cooperative. The programme builds on a 3-steps methodology of mobilising youth and together solve community needs by setting up cooperatives. Framed within the ICA-EU Partnership (#coops4dev), GCE is inspired by Cooperatives Europe’s CoopStarter 2.0 Erasmus + funded project.

What does GCE mentoring programme entail?

After a regional training in Autumn of 2019, youth ambassadors will be working together with GCE mentors, experts from cooperative associations and youth organizations, in a 6-month mentoring programme. As a youth ambassador you will get access to online and offline learning opportunities to build new networks and to create new positive change for your community.

Following the training, youth ambassadors will go on to mobilise youth around their cooperative start-up idea by planning and organizing three events with the support of the mentors. At the end of the programme, youth ambassadors will have had a chance to realise their cooperative business idea by learning more about cooperatives and how to start them. They will also strengthen their network of like-minded youth across the world.

Who can participate?

In Africa, young individuals from Uganda and Zimbabwe (between 18-35 years old) with a cooperative business vision and eager to engage with other young entrepreneurs in an international level are invited to fill in the application form by 26th of August.

The programme is implemented in 9 countries worldwide with youth benefiting from training with mentors in Colombia, El Salvador, India, Indonesia, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Malaysia, Poland and Sweden.
