Sunrise 29/01/1969- Sunset 25/12/2025
It is with profound sorrow and deep respect that the International Cooperative Alliance–Africa (ICA-Africa) announces the passing of High Chief Tajudeen Oriyomi Ayeola. Born on January 29, 1969, High Chief Ayeola departed this life on 25 December 2025, at the age of 56.
High Chief Ayeola was a towering leader of the cooperative movement in Africa and served ICA-Africa with exceptional distinction and commitment over a period of seven years. He first joined the Regional Board as a Board Member-at-Large (2018–2021), where his dedication, vision, and leadership quickly earned the confidence of the Regional Assembly. In recognition of his outstanding service, he was elected President of ICA-Africa for the term 2021–2025, and subsequently re-elected to serve a second term (2025–2029).
In his role as President of ICA-Africa, High Chief Ayeola carried the highest governance responsibilities within the Region. He provided strategic and continental leadership for the advancement of cooperatives across Africa; chaired the ICA-Africa Regional Board with integrity and diligence; represented the African cooperative movement at regional and global fora; strengthened partnerships with governments, development partners, and multilateral institutions; and championed policy advocacy to position cooperatives as key drivers of Africa’s socio-economic transformation. He also represented Africa on the global board of cooperatives, ensuring that the voice of the continent was heard at the highest levels.
During his tenure, High Chief Ayeola recorded several enduring achievements, including championing the establishment of ICA-Africa sub-regional offices to bring services closer to members; advancing initiatives aimed at strengthening the financial sustainability and institutional resilience of ICA-Africa; reinforcing governance, transparency, and member participation; and significantly raising the global visibility and credibility of African cooperatives.
High Chief Ayeola’s leadership, integrity, humility, and unwavering commitment to cooperative values have left an indelible mark on ICA-Africa and the wider cooperative movement. His passing is a great loss to Africa, to the global cooperative family, and to all who had the privilege of working with him.
On behalf of Ariel Guarco (ICA-President), Jeroen Douglas (ICA-Director General), ICA-Africa Regional Board, Secretariat, and the entire membership, we extend our deepest condolences to his family, colleagues, Cooperative Federation of Nigeria (CFN) and the entire cooperative community. We honour his legacy and reaffirm our commitment to upholding the principles and vision he so faithfully served.
May his soul rest in eternal peace.
